This structure is an example of the design that applies mixed structural technology research data from the starting of design phase until the construction is finished, knowledge and experience from expertise to find the optimum point for the energy saving structure.
Project’s specification has set an objective that the building must be unique, prominent, and appropriate to Thailand’s humid tropic weather condition. The design must not resemble to other designs by emphasizes on the convenience, usable spaces, and especially minimum foot prints to allow maximizing land utilization from the military activities. Design includes sky walks which the area underneath will be used as training ground. The upper section of the building was protruded built which creates shade for the under area and the looks is not congested at the eye level.
With the specification mentioned above, the architecture has selected ZINCALUME® steel made by BlueScope Steel for Roofing and Walling. BlueScope Steel building solutions can help contribute to thermal efficiency for greater comfort and reduced cooling costs. BlueScope Steel has developed a range of products that can help to improve energy efficiency in buildings with less heat radiated into the building compared to other commonly used building materials. ZINCALUME® steel has a light weight which can save on structural cost, quick and easy installation. It can be designed in an attractive profile. The architecture has used SAFE RIB S-720 B (BOLT TYPE), roof and wall cladding profile from Steel Intertech PCL.
Buildings of the project are all energy saving building, environmental conservation, and prominent because normally military buildings are commonly constructed, has general shapes. The mentioned above aspects remunerate the needs including prominent and pleasant look, low maintenance cost, appropriate to become the truly center of military development headquarters, able to control budget, and able to become the model of other government units. Inside of the building are connected by the sky walk which gives nice environment along with air conditioning system and low air conditioning expenses. This will improve quality of life of the people inside. This project is also an example of understandings and visions of military’s management, involved persons, and intention of the designer. The mentioned above information shows that the building can truly response to the needs of user.
Gregory Moffitt, Vice President Marketing at BlueScope Steel, adds: “The dramatic design of the Command Building of the Supreme Command Headquarters demonstrates the design flexibility of ZINCALUME® steel. This striking building leverages the capability of ZINCALUME® steel to be used in innovative designs and complex shapes. A landmark building such as this deserves the long life and durability of premium ZINCALUME® steel only from BlueScope Steel.”
He further said, “BlueScope Steel products are 100% recyclable and can be incorporated in energy efficient design to support economical, energy-saving, environmentally-friendly, and sustainable development. Common building materials such as concrete and wood are considered “non-recyclable”, whereas steel, can be recycled. Thus, the choice of building materials should involve both its current costs as well as its anticipated future costs-the cost of the material itself plus the cost of disposing it.”
