
BlueScope Steel Vietnam in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh University has announced the annual BlueScope Steel Design Award 2008 to foster excellence in architectural design for Vietnam’s infrastructure development.
The design awards not only pave the way for a brighter future for young, upcoming architects but also promote the use of steel building solutions in public infrastructure development.
Last year, the over 200 architecture students submitted 70 project designs. With prizes worth a total of VND 50,000,000, the competition is expected to be very strong again this year.
This year’s design competition is calling for design solutions for the proposed moderninsing of the Ben Thanh bus-station and highway toll plaza. Ben Thanh is a prominent locality in Ho Chi Minh City and its existing bus station is ready for modernising to reflect the dynamic nature of one of Asia’s most exciting cities.

Head of the Architecture Faculty at Ho Chi Minh University, Mr Le Thanh Son, said, “This design topic is a reflection of a hot social topic. BlueScope Steel’s support of this award implies its strong sense of community.”.
For the first phase of this Design Award, the competition is open to architectural students of Ho Chi Minh University only. However, in coming years, BlueScope Steel Vietnam is planning to include other architectural schools in Vietnam in the program.
